I <3 Okami, I wish they'd make a sequel. It's an awesome game. During the course of the game, I never quite understood how Okami was a reincarnation of Shiranui, probably something I'm not getting from the translation from Japanese to English.
Anyway, I imagined that Shiranui was a grown up version of Okami or something, so I felt like drawing this.  |

so basically they took "mother Amaterasu" and changed her to "wolf Amaterasu"
or at least that's what I think...
as for shiranui I don't know where the name came from, but Susano was a reference to the old story of Susano-no-miko who upset Amaterasu so much that she went and hid in a cave.
On the bright side, that is quite an amazing picture, love it

The name Shiranui (Which translates out to mean "the white wolf") is what the villager's called Ammy after she defeated Orochi. They didn't know she was a goddess at the time, they just thought she was a wolf.
Back then however, Ammy had her full powers which is why Shuranui is so much strong than Ammy. And why you take the form of shiranui at the end of the game. Oops....Spoiler.
I hope that clears some things up.
When you got that arm all cleaned off, now, think you'll take another commission or two?
