Companion Cube tutorial by HoiHoiSan Companion Cube tutorial by HoiHoiSan
Here is a tutorial of how I made my custom weighted companion cubes. Feel free to make your own but please take pictures and show me your results!

Weighted companion cube and aperture science were created by Valve for their game Portal. ^_^

I want to make one so bad now, this is going on my bucket list.  I'll probably use a cardboard box in place of a wood block and fill it with beans or something.  Money for an emergency.  Or just to hide.  Thank you so much for this non-complicated tutorial!  :)

If I find more stuff, I might be able to one day cosplay Rattman!
Cool thing anyway.  But you forgot the hearts! That's like the most important thing in the companion cube.

I was making them as christmas gifts so I changed up the heart to other symbols depending on the person. :)

My method isn't any more easier, it's just more sturdy :)

I wanna see your pile of cubes!

I'll post a picture sooner or later... I tend to forget things 10 seconds after I tell myself to do it :)

I used a foam block instead of wood :P was easier to make, and now when I throw it at someone they laugh instead of trying to beat me up.

FINALLY! Now I'll be alone ever again! Once I finish making my Weighted Companion Cube, I shall name it the toughest, fiercest, and most terrifying name I can think of... A name that can pierce the skies... I will name it... Bob.

Hi! I want to thank for such a wonderful tutorial! :D Based on this, I've made one of my own. Here it is: [link]

I also have a Storage version and a Garrus Vakarian version on the way, and your instructions saved me lots of headache on how I should place the pieces and such so they wouldn't leave gaps. ^^

I made a companion cube out of clay~
it has a keychain attachment and a 1 inch total height. took a full hour to make, not including molding time. with molding time, it was 2 hours. (i have crappy tools available to me and no money for better ones...)

Yeah, you'd just have to cut out each piece by hand and make lots of them :)

This is AWESOME!!! do you mind if I use this to make a life-sized cube?

Sure, though I don't think it'll work life sized because the materials don't scale up that way. :)

This is so finely done! Great tutorial and so enjoyable to read. You did a great job keeping in character - be it Glados or Aperture Science itself. I'm going to have to try this some day.

It's about 3 inches across or so. I'm not sure how easy it'd be to make a life sized one... you'd probably have to make it out of wood. :)
